# Kai Colless — World Champion Para Surfer

## Who Kai is

Kai Colless is a young Australian para surfer competing in the Unassisted Prone (Prone 1) division. In July 2022, at sixteen, he was diagnosed with a rare spinal arteriovenous malformation (AVM) on a family surf trip in France and lost normal use of his legs. Twelve months later he won his first world title in California. He has since won three consecutive AASP world titles (2023, 2024, 2025), the 2024 ISA Prone 1 world title and silver at the 2025 ISA Worlds — including a near-perfect 10-point ride that became one of the most-shared moments in para surfing history.

He represents Australia as part of the Irukandjis para surfing team.
