Frequently asked questions.

The answers to the questions Kai gets most often — about bookings, the sport, the AVM, and how to work together.

How do I book Kai to speak at my event?
Use the contact form and select 'Speaking / Appearance' as the enquiry type. Include your event date, location, audience size, format (keynote, fireside, panel), and any theme you'd like Kai to address. Kai personally replies within 48 hours and aims to confirm or decline within a week.
Where is Kai based and how far will he travel?
Kai is based in Palm Beach on the Gold Coast, Queensland. He travels frequently for competition and is happy to travel domestically and internationally for sponsorship, speaking and media work. Travel costs are quoted separately from professional fees.
What is Prone 1 (Unassisted Prone) para surfing?
Prone 1 is a competitive para surfing division for surfers who lie prone — chest on the board — and surf without an in-water assistant. Athletes paddle and ride waves using their arms, generally without fins, and are judged on the same criteria as able-bodied surfers: wave selection, manoeuvre difficulty, commitment, flow and combination.
What is an AVM?
An arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a rare, abnormal tangle of blood vessels that can occur in the brain or spinal cord. At 15, Kai was diagnosed with a spinal AVM that caused swelling of his spinal cord. After four months in Queensland Children's Hospital he was airlifted to Sydney for life-saving surgery. He was classified as a paraplegic and told he would likely never walk again. Through years of intensive rehab, he has since regained the ability to walk with crutches.
Does Kai do adaptive surf coaching for beginners?
Yes. Kai runs limited 1:1 sessions and small-group clinics for surfers with disability, from complete beginners through to competitive Prone 1 and Prone 2 athletes. Sessions are held at Burleigh Heads or Currumbin and run for 90 minutes. Apply via the contact form.
What does sponsorship investment look like?
Long-term ambassadorships start from AU$15,000 per year and scale based on deliverables, exclusivity, and territory. Short-term campaign and product collaboration fees are quoted on a project basis. Kai works with a small number of partners at a time to keep the relationships meaningful.
Can Kai donate appearances to charities and schools?
Yes — Kai supports a small number of charity, school and community appearances each year at reduced or no fee, particularly when they relate to disability, youth resilience, or surfing access. Apply through the contact form and outline the cause.
Is there a press kit available?
Yes. The press kit includes a full bio, career timeline, hi-res action and portrait photography, broadcast-quality clip reel, and approved imagery. Request via the contact form, selecting 'Media / Press / Interview'. Press deadlines are prioritised.
Who manages Kai's bookings?
Kai personally replies to every enquiry that comes through this site and routes commercial enquiries through his management as needed. The fastest path is the contact form.
How do I support Kai if I'm just a fan?
The biggest support is following his journey on social media, watching the live broadcasts when he competes, and turning up to community events on the Gold Coast. Sponsorship and partnership enquiries are also welcome through the contact form.
